 Teaching Positions at Pomona College

The Department of Biology of Pomona College is seeking one or more individuals to teach

courses during the 2010-2011 academic year.

In the fall, 2010, we are seeking an individual to supervise two laboratory sections of Biology

41C, Introductory Cell Chemistry and Cell Biology. Responsibilities include assisting in the

grading of exams, supervising the laboratory and grading laboratory exercises completed by

students, including quizzes, project proposals, a paper and an oral presentation. This course is

typically taken by science majors and pre-medical students in their Sophomore year. Labs

currently meet in the afternoon on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

In the spring, 2011, we are seeking an individual to teach Biology 163, Advanced Cell Biology.

Responsibilities include teaching both the lectures and leading a separate discussion section.

This course is taken by students who have completed Biology 41C. The lecture portion of the

course consists of two weekly lectures (75 minutes each). The discussion section would

substitute for a laboratory now held one afternoon every week. Times will be arranged

depending on the availability of the candidate.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in cell biology or a related field. We will consider

applications from candidates who are now completing their dissertations. Applicants should

submit a C.V., a statement describing their current research, teaching experience and which

course(s) they would teach, and the names of three references. Applications should be submitted

as a hard or electronic copy to Gail Sundberg, Administrative Assistant, Department of Biology,

Pomona College, 175 W Sixth Street, Claremont, CA 91711, (gail.sundberg@pomona.edu).

Review of applications will begin on March 15th and will continue until the position is filled.

General inquires about the positions may be directed to Karen Parfitt, (909) 621-8604

(karen.parfitt@pomona.edu), or Bruce Telzer, (909) 621-8215 (bruce.telzer@pomona.edu).

Questions about Biology 41C Laboratory may be directed to Karen Parfitt and about Biology

163 to Bruce Telzer.
